The History of coffee and coffee factoids

This is possibly the most randomly organized collection of coffee factoids available -- but interesting nonetheless!

Coffee is the 2nd most traded commodity in the world after oil and is poised to become the largest as people are turning to alternate energy sources.
The coffee industry employs over 250 MILLION people worldwide. The economies of numerous countries relies on their coffee crops.
Instant coffee was invented by the us army to supply their troops with coffee in the trenches in WWII. It was never intended to be a replacement for real coffee in the regular marketplace.
Legend has it that coffee was discovered in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia. It is said that a some sheep were grazing and they ate some of the cherries from a coffee bush and subsequently became energized. The shepherd was smart enough to make not of the cherries they ate and correlated it with their behavior change and he investigated....  so no we have coffee!
There are 2 distinct species of coffee bushes: Arabica and Robusta.
